Excerpt of email from Cindy: Our project with Gia Bac do not end here and we are really looking at building a sustainable systems in our developmental work at Gia Bac over the long term. As such we really welcome feedback and will be more than happy to have more volunteers to join us in this continuous process of improving our overseas community service projects. Now that everyone including Harry is back in Singapore, it will be a good time to pull everyone together to consolidate some of the discussions about Gia Bac and the future plans for the work there.
As such, we hope to invite your team to the following:
This session will be a critical feedback and brainstorming session for the future of the developmental work in Gia Bac while we catch up with all the passionate volunteers like YOU that have been to Gia Bac. So really hope to see you and your team around this Saturday afternoon!
Cheers,
Cindy

Question: What do you get when you take 1 Programmer, 1 Teacher, 1 Reporter + 1 Mr Chew and you put them together?
Answer: You get Ecoventure 2010 post-events!
Amazingly, a representative from each group (Mr Chew in his own league though) met up
and had a fruitful (I use Medic Kor Kor's term) discussion regarding our post-event activities.
How did this come about? To be honest, it was pretty spontaneous. To cut a long story short, (someone has been complaining that I write long long long long proses) it all started with an email, more emails, multiple smses of the same message, hasty phone calls, more phone calls, a certain fast-food restaurant, a certain other (but not fast-food) restaurant, lunch - main course, chat, discussion, cakes, chat, discussion, phone call, Mr Chew arrives, drinks, discussion and finally, there you have it - post-event activities! Like magic, no? ^^
Post-Expedition Service: Farming
Discussion: Students or Residents to manage the farm?
Most likely a collaboration with a school as an activity for their ECA or for CIP hours
Purpose: Promote Sustainability, Environmental-friendliness and Healthy Living (eat more vegetables!)
Benefits for the school: Educational, Therapeutic and involves Recycling and Reusing of plastic bottles for planting herbs in.
Starting it: Start off with a pilot test first before attempting to expand into a larger scale with scaffolding to allow multiple levels for planting
Maintenance: Crops will be table-top based in Styrofoam boxes - clean and easy to maintain
Materials: Seeds (from Mr Chew), infrastructure (probably the one contributing to the greatest cost for this project), manpower (students)
Manpower: Briefing for students about how to care for the plants necessary
What else needs to be done?
Contacting the school for a discussion of details
Post-Event Fun + Follow-up to Farming: Organic Farming, Microwave Cooking
Find yourself stuck alone at home with no food to eat? Need a quick fix for a meal? Take a handful of leaves from your garden and let Mr Chew teach you the magic of mircowave cooking! It's fast. It's simple. It's not messy. But most importantly, it's delicious!
Time: 8.30pm (Please have your dinner before coming! If you would like to have dinner together, do let us know and we can meet earlier to eat together! ^^)
Route: Just follow us! (We will be doing a recce a week before to make sure that we won't get lost so don't worry! ^^)
If you've all been following the blog, tweets and emails closely, you will realise that 17th July was the proposed date for our BBQ. Therefore, can I ask whether you're all still interested to have the BBQ as well? We can still have both if many people are for the idea. ^^
Please vote!
Actually, I think I might have missed out on some details during some parts of the earlier discussion as I was rather busy with something else... Jun Wei and Kenneth, please let me know if I've made any mistakes or if you would like to make additional announcements. Thanks lots! ^^
1 full day of ecoforum + exhibition 8 full days of reforestation + teaching 1 full day of Rest & Recreational Activities (2 full days of on-the-road travelling)
Boy, it was sure blasting eventful! We're still in the midst of collating our photographs/documenting stuff. So, please be patient and give us some time yeah? We'll be updating asap :D
